1934: The Very Beginning

Bryant Distributing Company was founded in 1934 by Mr. Jefferson Bryant, whose entire working capital was comprised of himself, a 1934 Ford (rumble seat) and whatever gas was in its tank.

He had no cash, working capital, nor any formally-established credit.

Inventory was advanced by the distiller, secured only by his good name- and paid for in arrears following sale to retailers.

1963-1978: The Early Years

Bryant's distribution business centered in and around Owensboro for the first forty-odd years.  Sprits were the main focus with a lesser focus on the wines of the day.  It was during this time, that John Carpenter Sr., took over the reins from his father-in-law, Mr. Bryant.  John never looked back.  With an eye towards the on-going consolidation that pervaded the wholesale business even during these times, John began his strategic plan to become a statewide wholesaler.

1979: The Turning Point

A decision was made in 1979 to expand into Louisville, then to Northern Kentucky and finally into the Lexington and Central Kentucky markets.  With the purchase of existing wholesalers in each of these markets, Bryant built and improved relationships that continue to flourish today.

Today
